Marine Conservation and Surfing

An unforgettable day at the sea! We traveled to Playa Grande where we learned about marine conservation and surfing. Our day began with a presentation by a conservation biologist at the Goldring-Gund Marine Biology Station; here we discussed single-use plastics, leatherback sea turtles, and ways to reduce our impact on the ocean. Together we participated in a beach clean-up, where we discovered tons of micro-plastics on Playa Grande Beach. We learned that the choice to conserve is up to us!

After learning how to protect the sea we learned how to surf! Many of us conquered fears of deep water and big waves, but every student was able to ride a wave all the way into the shore! We had so much fun surfing, boogie boarding, and playing in the ocean today!
