Liberia and Top Chef

Today we explored our first city in Costa Rica! Our day began with an excursion to a produce market, La Feria Liberia. Students interacted with Costa Rican vendors to acquire ingredients for our Top Chef competition. Each student was able to practice their Spanish conversation skills!

Top Chef teams battled it out to create the most impressive gallo pinto (authentic Costa Rican beans and rice), patacones (fried plantains), and natural fruit juice. They were judged on qualities like teamwork and cultural knowledge of their dishes. The judges were extremely impressed by the taste and presentation of the winner’s final product. Everyone learned a lot about Spanish conversation and collaborating as a group today! We ended the evening with a special dinner of American-style cheeseburgers and ice cream to celebrate the Fourth of July.
